We took our first big trip back East and first time on an Airplane to see family members. There was an Earthquake and Hurricane Irene, that changed many of our plans and we didn’t get to see everyone we wanted to, but we did see many of Dad’s family and did lots of fun stuff.
The Ruby Slippers at the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
The rental car place ran out of crappy cars, so they hooked us up with this sweet Suburban, lots more space for all our junk. It also made us feel more safe driving around in hurricane weather.
Dad always loved the picnics he had at Great Falls Park as a kid, so we had to do that too.
It was nice to see Grandma Mariel again and meet Great Grandma Fuller, as wells as aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Maybe we’ll kayak down the falls someday.
Another place Dad remembered being fun as kid was going to the Colvin Run Mill. It was pretty cool, but the snapping geese weren’t around.
How many Rooks do you see? I count 5.
The National Zoo was fun, they had panda bears, gorillas, a reptile house, and an invertebrate house that were all really neat.
The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is really big, and the creatures can be scary.
Especially the dinosaur bones.
The Earthquake caused a large crack at the top of the Washington monument, so it was closed down and will need to be repaired.
Couldn’t miss the Air & Space Museum
This was first airplane, or something like that.
We took a break and went to Chucky Cheese during the rain storm, it was simple fun.
This is the best way to do it.
The Hurricane knocked out the power in our Maryland hotel, and many other large sections of the metro DC area, so we packed up and headed north to Hershey, PA.
The Hershey Chocolate World factory tour was fun, we went on it at least 3 times.
A cool little train station we drove by in Palmyra, PA.
Dad took a field trip to South Philly to this famous intersection where the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich was invented. Of course a taste test was necessary.
Everyone agreed, Geno’s is the best!
Cousins Lauren, Luke and Maeve were very fun and it was really nice of Aunt Vicki and uncle Jim to host us for dinner and let the kids play together.
The day after the hurricane hit, the beach was really nice, so we couldn’t miss going down to Rehoboth. It was the first time for either of us to play in the ocean.
The boardwalk is always fun. And you can’t skip Dolle’s saltwater taffy.
But the highlight might have been all the rides at Funland.
Aurelia thinks every car should have at least 2 steering wheels.
Dad said his Dusty Road sundae from Royal Treat would have alone made the entire trip worth it.

Those are some amazing fun pictures. I am so glad you got to do some fun things before you had to deal with the hurricane. That looks like a trip worth taking again and again. Glad you all had fun.
